Everybody has a dream. For Jim Morris, that dream was to emerge from the outfield bullpen in a Major League ballpark -- to run over the lush green grass of center field to the pitcher’s mound, with the roar of the capacity crowd humming in his ears and the stadium lights reflecting off his face. To experience the thrill of a professional ball game from the perch upon which all eyes are fixed.

Unfortunately, Morris sustained a serious shoulder injury in his prime and was unable to pursue his dream. Instead, he settled down with his wife, and became a high school chemistry teacher in Big Lake, Texas and father of three. While coaching the school baseball team, the young players took notice of the zip on his fastball during batting practice (an extraordinary 98mph zip, to be precise). A bet was made: if the Big Lake Owls could overcome their own obstacles and win the district championship, then their coach would agree to attend a big league tryout. Jim Morris had long dismissed his childhood longing as wistful daydreams of the past, but, in his mid-thirties, he was presented with an opportunity to do it all over again. It’s never too late to follow your dreams, even if they seem impossible to reach.
